couch surfing

I'm in a much better mood than i was yesterday when i wrote a rather long rant about public transport and the city and bad manners ect. i haven't put it up yet as with anything i write in a mood it has lots and lots of typo's that need to be repaired. But since i'm feeling more upbeat i'll talk about the positive side of what i was saying. Basically i feel that the world is some what falling apart and that to halt this sort of erosion of human connectedness. we need to do positive things as well as not do the negative ones. Recently i've been thinking about some of the cool stuff you can do to reconnect with other humans and realise that there are some rad people out there.

couch surfing: www.couchsurfing.com

Some of you may know about this idea and website but i'll assume not just in case. Basically it's a site for world travellers, you have a profile on the site and you can either host people to stay at your house when your not travelling or ask to be hosted at people's house when you are travelling. Everyone has a profile and kind of like ebay you get feedback ratings based on people who have meet you and what they think of you. To date we've had a handful of different people stay at our little house in the last few months. An american couple, a belgium girl, two belgium boys and an italian guy is staying this weekend.

So far it's been a really rad experience, pascal who some of you may have meet is the belgium girl who actually became our housemate after staying a few nights on the couch. And the other people have been really fun as well. You get along differently with different people but i really like hosting peple. It's interesting to take them aound the city and see it through other people's eyes, it makes me appreaciate melbourne a bit more. Also i now have friends in different countries i can stay with and my profile looks a lot better as i have a lot of positive feedback as a host. You should check this out, it's a good way to help out people and meet new people.
